SPANworks Setup Wizard

After you first install SPANworks, or if a new user logs in to your machine, the SPANworks Wizard will guide you through setting up SPANworks. There are only a few things that SPANworks needs to identify you and to establish a connection. Follow the images below to help explain the process and what is happening during the setup.

The first step of the Wizard is just an introductory step. There are no settings to establish here, just click next to get started, or cancel to do it another time. In order for you to use SPANworks, it is necessary to go through these steps.

The next step is where you provide a username or nickname that SPANworks will use as your identification to other SPANworks users. You can also assign a picture or other image to further identify yourself. Usable file formats are bitmap and JPEG, but the file size must be less than 32K bytes (approximately 100x100 pixels for 24-bit bitmap image). You will need to create this using an application of your choosing, or you can use the default image temporarily. You can change the image or username at anytime from the Options dialog.

The default location for all incoming File Transactions is under your My Documents folder in the SPANworks Inbox. However, you can change this location at this step if you want to store the files in a different location. For example, you can use a shared network drive or another local drive location.

Before SPANworks can communicate with other computers, you need to set the appropriate communication interface. For example, if you are using TCP/IP, select "Windows Socket (TCP/IP)" from the drop down list. Or if you know you are using a network adaptor directly, select that device from the drop down list. Remember that you need to select like devices in order to communicate with others.

That's it. You are now ready to start using SPANworks. Click on the Finish button to start SPANworks and start sharing. If you want other people to have access to areas of your computer you will need to establish shared locations of your hard drive.
