Overview of SPANworks II Wireless SDK

The SPANworks II Wireless Ad Hoc SDK provides access to the first and only MultiPeer™ cross-platform communications service for spontaneous ad hoc, proximity networks. This commercial software development toolkit enables software developers to write applications using an industry-standardized COM interface to our MultiPeer communications technology.

MultiPeer

Miles beyond point-to-point and Peer-to-Peer, SPANworks' MultiPeer engine provides resilient ad hoc networks simply by sensing proximate peers. We have coined the name ImmediaNet™ for our proximity MultiPeer environment, the engine that performs our proximity connection magic. Networks grow and shrink spontaneously without user configuration. Of course, users have the option to remain "silent" or "hidden." (Click here for table of Features and Benefits).

What is included

The SDK provides a Programmer's Guide to our comprehensive COM-API documentation, cross-platform sample applications, design-time libraries, and 10 application keys for testing and debugging. The SDK even includes, as a demo application, the same commercial application suite, SPANworks 2000, that is distributed with all of Toshiba's wireless products. Use any Wi-Fi cards, selected Bluetooth cards, or even a traditional wired hub to create a proximity environment for development and testing.

Protocols and Operating Systems

ImmediaNet addresses Winsock or NDIS for traditional networking. For Bluetooth it supports RFCOMM and SDP (including File Transfer and Object Push) as well as Winsock (no Bluetooth Profiles over Winsock). This provides enormous flexibility in designing and implementing wireless applications regardless of media - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and traditional wired Ethernet media. The ImmediaNet Wireless SDK currently supports:

• Windows CE, specifically for Pocket PC

• Winsock & NDIS

• All Toshiba Bluetooth products

• Digianswer Bluetooth Software Suite

• Socket Communications' Personal Network Card (PNC) and Bluetooth Software

Summary

SPANworks' ImmediaNet is the first and only MultiPeer communications development toolkit. No other SDK comes close to offering the breadth of potential markets, the speed and flexibility of development or the simplicity of design and implementation provided by ImmediaNet. No other SDK permits a single development project to ignore the adapter and simultaneously address both major wireless media. And no other SDK is offered at so reasonable a cost of entry.
